Day 2
Your guide and driver will meet you today, for a morning tour of Lima’s key attractions. Your tour will focus mainly on the impressive historical sights of the central colonial part of the city. Afternoon at leisure.
Day 3
An early start for your flights to the biodiverse Amazon rainforest. You will be transferred into the jungle with a combination of vehicle, motorised canoe and paddle boat to your lodge, home for the next three nights. All activities and meals will be included during your stay, as well as the services of an experienced naturalist guide.
Day 4
The first full day of group activities from your Amazon lodge. Mornings offer the best chance to spot wildlife, so be prepared for early starts and busy days of wildlife spotting! Typical activities include nature walks, canopy tower climbs and leisurely trips by paddle canoe. Your expert naturalist guide will scan the tree tops and water’s edge, pointing out lurking caiman, playful river otters or perhaps a swooping colourful macaw along the way.
Day 5
Second day of activities in the Amazon. Many lodges are set in dense rainforest with surrounding walking trails to explore. Your nature walk will typically take place within the lodge grounds where a specialist guide will take you on a short circuit in search of the curious amphibians, plants, insects and birds. You may also take a relaxing boat trip around one of the region’s pristine lakes.
Day 6
Transfer back to the airport in time for your flight to Cusco, proud former capital of the Inca empire. Upon arrival you will be driven to your hotel in the historic centre, an area filled with pretty plazas, boutiques and restaurants.
Day 7
You will meet your guide and driver for a tour of the city. You will explore the highlights of central Cusco as well as some of the impressive Incan ruins on the surrounding hillsides.
Day 8
Free day to further explore Cusco at your own pace. Shop for gifts in the handicrafts markets, visit one of the city's superb museums or perhaps arrange a cookery class.
Day 9
You will be transferred through the Sacred Valley to the small town of Ollantayambo, from where you will take the spectacular train journey to Machu Picchu. On arrival, you will take the shuttle bus up to Machu Picchu with your guide. You will have an afternoon tour, before returning to the small town where you will spend the night.
Day 10
You have tickets for a second entry to Machu Picchu to explore by yourselves. You can also climb Huayna Picchu mountain, for bird’s eye views over the Inca citadel. You will take the train to the Sacred Valley this afternoon.

Peru is a country of striking contrasts from the dense and steamy jungles of the Amazon Basin to the rugged splendour and colourful historic towns of the high Andean plateau. If you are equally enthralled by wildlife as well as history and culture, then this is the journey for you. Despite these extremes of climate and culture, the two are easily combined via only a very short internal flight, for a diverse trip without too much internal travel.

Your holiday starts with a day to explore vibrant Lima’s historic centre and unwind on the coast. You then fly south-east to Puerto Maldonado, the most accessible gateway to Peru’s lush Amazon Basin, one of the most biodiverse regions on the planet. Colourful macaws, giant river otters, monkeys, reptiles and amphibians are among the unique flora and fauna here from your riverside lodge. Then head to Cusco to explore its colonial splendour, scale the steps of the citadel at Machu Picchu and relax in the beauty of the Sacred Valley.
