Despite the transatlantic flight, with a direct flight from the UK three times a week in peak travel season, it is very much possible to consider a shorter trip to Peru. This journey is for those who only have just over a week to get the most out of this amazing country. It still makes a great option for a short break as the major sites are relatively close to one another, centred in and around Cusco, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. This trip focuses on the fascinating history of the region, unique traditional culture and spectacular scenery.
There is time on arrival to explore cosmopolitan Lima, with all of its culinary delights, great selection of museums and attractive historic centre! Unwind with a drink at an oceanfront bar in Barranco, for example. A short internal flight brings you to the charming colonial city of Cusco, a great place to explore on foot, with its pretty squares and meandering cobbled streets. Then take the train to Machu Pichu through the striking Sacred Valley with a relaxing night in rural surroundings before heading home. This would also combine beautifully with a trip to the Galapagos Islands.
2 nights Lima – 3 nights Cusco – 1 night Machu Picchu – 1 night Sacred Valley – 1 night on plane
